In February of this year I received an offer to do work experience with the London School of Samba to create costumes for their summer season, primarily their performance in the 2011 Notting Hill Carnival.

Myself and two others, Emma Cresswell and Jo Hunnisett were put in charge of the construction of ten

costumes for a dance ala of a ‘Spice Girl’ theme. The overall theme of the London School of Samba’s 2011 entry was:

“Zé Malandro and the Forty Thieves”

“Open Sesame, minha gente!”

Based on a kind of Arabian Nights dream or illusion sequence, the entry was a blend of Arabian andBrazilian samba themes. We were put in charge of creating ten costumes for female dancers from an image given to us by an outside designer. We were provided a prototype, however we decided that a more fitted design would be better suited to the type of dancing that the ‘Spice Girls’ would be doing.

More pictures of my costumes can be seen on my Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/66740421@N02/sets/72157627424895857/
